[food review] The Nasi Lemak + Lok Lok Paradise

Nasi Lemak is a simple and classic Malay dish, which is commonly found almost everywhere in Singapore. Every individual stall in Singapore has its own way of preparing it. I particularly like the Nasi Lemak from ‘The Nasi Lemak’, where it is located directly opposite Bugis+.

It’s my first time dining at 'The Nasi Lemak', and I was told beforehand that their nasi lemak sold out as early as 2pm. Their signature Nasi Lemak (SGD6) is recommended which consist of a chicken wing, fried egg, fried fish, peanuts and ikan bilis, otak and basmati coconut rice. This set comes with generous portions of ingredients which paired well with their special sambal chilli!

There are three crucial components to make a scrumptious plate of nasi lemak, and they are rice, chilli and the fried chicken. For me, the chilli and chicken must be tasty to complete my nasi lemak experience.

What I like about this signature set (SGD6) is that the chicken wing tasted awesome, and the sambal chili goes very well with the rice. I also love their sides (extra add-ons) too, which ranged from curry/sardine puffs, sambal eggs, chicken franks, sambal fish cakes, tahu goreng, bergedil and malay achar!

This is an alert to those who miss going to Johor Bahru for a late-night lok lok supper, I have good news to share - Lok Lok Paradise is located at Sengkang Square and it is opened until 2am on Fridays and Saturdays! The place closes at 1am on all other days.

The popular Malaysian street snack which is usually sold from a food truck consists of various skewered steamboat ingredients, which are served either deep-fried or boiled in a broth. I was happy to be introduced to Lok Lok Paradise, which has satisfied my Lok Lok cravings at an affordable price without having to cross the causeway!

Their fried skewers boast a crispy exterior, which are garnished with a mixture of seasoning powder! The highlight at Lok Lok Paradise are their fresh prawns! I love the firm texture, which was juicy on the inside, and it is best eaten either boiled or deep-fried. For that extra savory kick, pair them together with their selection of homemade sauces.

There are 5 different selections of dipping sauces to choose from at the condiment bar counter - Signature extra spicy chili sauce, Peanut sauce, Thai chili sauce, Sweet sauce, Sweet and chili sauce.

If you happen to be at North East Area, do hop by and try Lok Lok Paradise. It is a great place for supper and light snacks, and is conveniently located within walking distance from Sengkang MRT.
