Thanks CK, for extending her invite to me on a recent food tasting. This invite gave me the opportunity to be part of the grand opening party of the newly opened restaurant, 'River Wok'.

River Wok offers the best flavors from Indochina under one roof, which has an eclectic menu that was created by Executive Chef Kantha Chookiat. This menu focuses on Southeast Asian Cuisines from countries, such as Laos, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam. It seems the Chef grew up in chiang Mai, Thailand, hence he has an acute taste for Indo-Chinese food which was developed from a young age. He would help his mother prepare meals for his family, and the chef credits his mother for the inspiration to step out of his home kitchen and into the culinary world at the age of 16. Starting young brought him many advantages, as the now 47- year-old chef has already earned recognition among many distinguished individuals, having served Singapore’s late Founding Father and former Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew and royalties like Prince Edward, the Princess of Monaco and the King and Queen of Sweden. Inspired by his travels all around the world, the chef's favourite cuisine is still VietnameseHe also looks up to Chef Jamie Oliver as his 'chef idol'. His food creations have earned him the title of 'Indo-Chinese Treasure' from Cuisine and Wine Asia Magazine.

We took some photos at the premises before the event commenced.

During the opening party, we indulged in the canapes which featured the best flavours from various Southeast Asian cuisines that ranged from Laos, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam! The canapes that were created by Chef Kantha Chookiat was awesome! Below are some of my top picks!

Roast Beef with Caramelised Onions and Truffle Sauce

Chicken Satay

 Vietnamese Sugarcane Prawn

Laotian Koi Pa Salmon on Wanton Skin Indonesian

We were delighted to also try out the latest selection of refreshing cocktails to pair up with the canapes! Passion Crush - a cocktail consisting of cointreau, rum, kaffir lime leaves and passion fruit.

Coco Bay - concocted to perfection with lime, coriander, coconut cream and gin and served in young coconut.

Smokey Sunset - consisting of Grand Marnier, lemongrass, spiced rum, lime and orange juice.

Apart from the food indulgence, we were also treated to a night of entertainment by a 3-piece band, 'The Serenaders'. There was also a Lion Dance performance during the launch event for luck, as well as a special performance from Traditional Thai Dancers.

It's been a long hiatus, since I last caught up with Hong Peng and Jonathan, therefore this photo is truly a keepsake for me! We had some oysters during the event, and they were very fresh. We loved the desserts too!
