New Delhi: The most anticipated and widely celebrated festival of colors – Holi Knocking on the door. This year, the festival is celebrated all over India on March 18. The day before the festival, Holika Dahan Puja is performed, which in many places is also known as Choti Holi. Holika Dahan is celebrated on March 17.

Maharashtra: Holi festival in Maharashtra lasts for a week or more. Firewood is collected by the youth in the community and ‘shimka’ is lit at night in every neighborhood. It is a ritual that every family brings food and sweets to the festivals and most people prepare puran poly on this day.

Telangana: Here, Holi festival is also known as Kamuni Punnami / Kama Purnima or Jajiri as it is associated with the Purana of Kamadeva. It is a long 10 day festival in the state and the last day is the main Holi festival. For 9 days leading up to the main festival, children sang folk songs, played goats, and collected money, rice, and firewood.

West Bengal: In West Bengal, the Holi festival is called ‘Dol Jatra’ or ‘Dol Purnima’ and people celebrate the idols of Radha and Krishna on the pulpit. Then the procession went around the area and paid their respects. People dance and sing carrying divine symbols to celebrate the festival.
