Haley Mathews’ tough spell helped West Indies beat Bangladesh in the last over thrill of the 2022 ICC Women’s World Cup at the Bay Oval on Friday.
While defending 141, Haley Mathews took 4 wickets and Afi Fletcher took 3 wickets to lead Bangladesh to a 136-run victory and bring home his side with a 4-run victory. Small total in their ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup.
Chasing 141, Bangladesh struggled to chase down only 141, beating the West Indies. With captains Niger Sultana (14) and Salma Kadun (3) unbeaten, the Asian team reached 64/5 in 25 overs and needed another 77 runs for the second consecutive victory in the tournament. Bangladesh lost 6 wickets for just 85 runs. Captain Niger Sultana scored only 25 and Hayley Mathews returned to the pavilion with a scoreboard of 85/6.

Bangladesh’s middle-order batsmen then tried to anchor the innings. In the end, it came down to the last six balls in Tauranga, bowled by experienced West Indies captain Stephanie Taylor Nahida Akhtar (25 *) and Bangladesh needed eight more runs. Win with only one wicket in hand.
Earlier, West Indies spinners Haley Mathews (4/14) and Afi Fletcher (3/29) did great damage to the West Indies, while wicketkeeper Shemine Campbell (53 *) excelled. With this victory the West Indies have advanced to third place in the table with three wins in five matches, while Bangladesh are seventh. Bangladesh spinners Salma Kadun and Nahida Akhtar took two wickets respectively, with skipper Niger Sultana (25) leading the way with the scorer batting performance on the Asian side.
