New Delhi: Malicious actors easily prey on WhatsApp users. Cybercriminals are trying to deceive WhatsApp users by mimicking the title of a popular movie. A new scam has been uncovered that sends visitors to fake websites claiming to offer the popular Kashmir Files movie for free. By clicking on this link, you expose your phone to malware and other threats.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Noida) Ranvijay Singh has come to explain why this latest WhatsApp scam is so deadly. Singh added that by clicking on the fake link, customers will not get the Kashmir files video, but instead cyber criminals will be able to hack into empty bank accounts associated with smartphones and phone numbers.

“There is not yet a specific case where the name of the film has been exploited,” Singh told PTI, “but the Consmen are using such an approach to hack people’s phones or swindle money.”

He said some people lost their savings as a result of clicking on some of the links provided to them by WhatsApp. These links were disguised as free Kashmir files movie streaming.

“Most recently, within 24 hours from a single police station, three people spoke to the police with similar cyber fraud allegations, in which they lost a total of Rs 30 lakh,” he added.

Here’s how to stay safe

According to police officials, WhatsApp users should avoid clicking on links posted on the processor or social media. If the connection is shared by an unknown person, it can pose even greater risk.

Even if such a link is shared by an authorized person, the user must first contact that person to confirm the legitimacy of the connection.

The Kashmir Files movie is based on a flight from the Kashmiri Pandits Valley in the early 1990s. The film was praised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other prominent leaders.
