New Delhi: The Delhi government has decided to provide Rs 5,000 crore to workers who lost their jobs due to the construction blockade. The government has announced a ban on construction in 2021 with the aim of curbing rising pollution in the capital.

A total of 83,183 construction workers will receive cash assistance from the Delhi government. Government officials said the funds would be paid directly into workers’ bank accounts.

In 2021, the government also provided a pollution livelihood subsidy of 245 crore rupees to 4,91,488 workers registered with the Delhi Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (DBOCWWB).

At this juncture, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia has said that construction workers registered with the DBOCWWB before November 24, 2021 will be eligible to receive funds directly into their bank accounts.

It is noteworthy that on November 24, 2021 the government announced a ban on construction work. The government is now expected to distribute Rs 41.9 crore to the remaining 83,000 workers.
