New Delhi: The Bhagavad Gita will be introduced in all Gujarat schools as part of the curriculum for classes 6-12 from the 2022-23 academic year announced by the state assembly.

The announcement was made by Education Minister Jitu Vakani during the debate on the budget allocation for the education sector in the Legislative Assembly.

The decision to compile the Bhagavad Gita is in line with the Centre’s National Education Policy (NEP), which recommends instilling ancient cultures and modern traditions in children from an early age.

Speaking to reporters later, Vakhani said all religions have accepted the moral values ​​and principles outlined in the ancient Hindu scriptures.

“Therefore, we have decided to introduce the Bhagavad Gita in the school curriculum from 6th to 12th class. ,” said.

Schools will also organize scripture-based activities such as prayer, sloka recitation, comprehension, drama, quizzes, painting and speech competitions, he said.

The minister added that research materials such as books and audio-video CDs would be provided to schools by the government.
